Blessing Kids Project

12-Wed-2019

Blessing Kids Project is a community based ministry for the purpose of providing bags of food for the needy children in Union School District. School personnel shared that kids were coming to school on Monday hungry. A group of volunteers from Rimersburg and Sligo coordinated by Cathy Carmichael meet every Friday morning in the Rimersburg United Methodist Church to pack bags of food valued at $5 each for the kids to take home for the weekend.

The items consist of individual size boxes of cereal, soup, fruit, applesauce, pudding, juice, macaroni and cheese, crackers, sandwiches, and fresh fruit. The bags of food are given to all Headstart and PreKcounts children each week. The Guidance Counselor has specified who receives the food in Grades K- 6 and that is given out twice a month. Currently, Blessing Kids Project is giving out 35 bags each week to Headstart and PreKCounts and to the K-6 bimonthly 75 bags of food. The cost for a month of food runs almost $1500 or for 9 months of school $13,500. Several churches, organizations, and individuals have contributed to this worthy cause. Future plans are to give the food out weekly in the Elementary School to those in need. More donations are welcome and needed to keep the program going and to increase the number of children who receive the food.

If you are interested in helping to provide food for the weekend for needy children in Union School District, contact the church office at 814-473-6105. Checks may be made out to the Rimersburg United Methodist Church with Blessing Kids Project on the memo line. All donations are tax deductible.
